The Game I'll Never Forget:
Compiled by Chris McDonell $19.95 Cdn at Amazon.ca
Chris
McDonell searched through years and years of Hockey Digest magazine's
most popular regular feature: The Game I'll Never Forget. The regular
magazine feature highlights the most memorable game in the careers of
some of hockey's greatest players. The words come directly from the
player's mouth, as told to a variety of authors. McDonell compiles 100
great stories, and adds color photos, box scores and his own personal
comments. Most of the book talks about NHL games, but international
games are also highlighted. Most notably is the 1972 Summit Series
recollections of Bill White and Peter Mahovlich, the 1987 Canada Cup
memories of Rick Tocchet, the infamous 1976 Super Series game between
the Red Army and Philadelphia Flyers as told by Dave "The
Hammer" Schultz, the 1976 Canada Cup by Rogie Vachon; and the
1980 Olympics' Miracle On Ice as told by Neal Broten. Also, Peter
Stastny and Vaclav Nedomansky are the only two non-North American
players chosen for this project. McDonell also offers his own
memories on the 1976 Canada Cup, 1996 World Cup of Hockey, and the
1998 and 2002 Olympic Games. Or course this book is not specifically
focussing on international hockey. We also get first hand accounts
from some of hockey's biggest names including: Stan Mikita, Jean
Beliveau, Ken Dryden, Phil and Tony Esposito, Dave Keon, Bobby Hull,
Gordie Howe, Frank Mahovlich, Bobby Orr, Jacques Plante, Rocket
Richard and Darryl Sittler.
