Canada’s first-ever encounter with the Soviets was one that Canadian
fans would sooner have forgotten. The East York Lyndhursts had done very
well at the 1954 world championships, winning six straight games before
meeting the Moscow Dynamo in the final. This game marked the beginning of
the Soviet Union’s rise in international hockey.
