A center who played for Wiener EV (Austria) and
Berliner SC (Germany), Herbert Bruck formed one of the strongest lines in
Europe during the 1920's together with his brother Walter and sharpshooter Ulli
Lederer.
A masterful technician who could trickle his way through any defense, Bruck delivered fine accurate passes to his wingers. Was a good two-way player who back-checked strongly. Bruck learned a lot under the guidance of Canadian Blake H. Watson who was a future Allan Cup winner with Manitoba. Watson studied Dentistry in Vienna and was Wiener EV's playing coach in the late 20's. Brück then developed into an even more complete player under the guidance of another Canadian medical student, Gordon Dempsey. |
